There are only a handful of manufacturers that have established for themselves the reputation that's associated with Colnago bikes. Colnago is a world renowned and high end manufacturer of road racing bikes. Started in 1954 near Cambiago, Italy, Colnago bikes have come to be known as a truly powerful and spectacular bike, ideal for road racing. Born into a farming family, Ernesto Colnago decided to leave his family's traditions to work in the cycle trade, where he eventually worked as a mechanic for the legendary Eddy Merckx on the Molteni team.

Ernesto Colnago was a bike racer himself but realized early on that his skills truly laid in frame construction as he worked as a mechanic. Colnago found, early on, that a shorter more upright frame would be more responsive for bicyclists but in that day wasn't able to create such a bike to the need and demand for longer and more comfortable frames suited to that times bumpier and rougher road conditions. As the condition of road ways improved Colnago was able to realize the truth and importance of his suspicion. When Eddy Merckx was brash enough to set out on the one hour record, Colnago built him a masterpiece. The bike was so cutting edge that it had to be shipped off for copletion, because the skills weren't available from those in his country. This, like all other Colnago bikes, was truly a work of art and exemplary of why his work is so high end.

When technology advanced and carbon fiber was more readily available, Colnago bikes were the first to fully embrace the technology. Colnago began working with Ferrari on the technology to better understand its possibilities in the bicycle racing world. This led to some of the most important race bike frames such as the Flight, Colnago's fastest bike ever.
