There are four main types of bicycle for either professional, functional, or recreational use that you can get:- Mountain bike, Road racing, Touring, and Hybrid. Unique Qualities of the Mountain Bike

The mountain bike was originally designed to handle rough off road cycling conditions. They have wider tires with a knobby tread for added grip and stability on dirt, sand, gravel, rocks, or any other off road surface. They have the sturdiest frame construction of all models to endure the punishment of off road riding. The handlebars are wide and flat producing an athletic posture from which to maneuver the bike over all types of terrain. They will typically have 18 to 21 gears allowing the rider to find the perfect peddle rotation speed for climbing hills, navigating rough surfaces, and generating speed. Some models have suspension and high tech braking systems to further increase the performance of the bike. Suspension, braking systems, and gearing can all be either up or downgraded to suit your riding style and abilities.

Uses of the Mountain Bike.

Although they were designed for off road riding the mountain bike can be found everywhere from city streets and country roads, to beaches, school yards, and campuses across the country. The design of the mountain bike lends itself to easy riding and makes it very appealing to many different types of riders. However if you are riding long distances on good paved roads you may want to consider one of the alternatives. Mountain bikes will be the right choice for many relatively short distance commuters but the real enjoyment of your mountain bike comes off the paved surface, whether you are riding for recreation, exercise, or competition in one of the many off road classifications.
