What an inspiring story of faith and fortitude. In 1975 Dr. David Hon (founder of Dahon Bikes) was disheartened by the world’s reliance on oil. Being a leading specialist in solid-state laser technology, Dr. Hon has numerous U.S. patents for advancements in laser technology. It was during this time the idea of a practical, mobile solution for transportation came about.

After several years of trial, error and rejection Dr. Hon made a resolution. Quitting his job at the Hughes Aircraft Corporation and then moving to Thailand to build his own factory he found the freedom needed to carry his idea to fruition. Deservedly Dr. Hon’s hard work paid off in 1982. The first Dahon folding bicycle was introduced to world acclaim, the rest is history. With over two million bicycles sold to date this is not only a success story but an inspiring one as well.
