In Japan in the year 1899 the Nichibei trading company was formed. The word Nichibei when translated means Japanese-American. This company was an importer and marketing agency of American products. In 1919 the merger of this company and a Japanese engineering company created the Nichibei Fuji Cycle Company and began producing bicycles. By the 1920s Fuji was leading the way in regular bikes as well as in racing bikes in Japan.

In the 1930s Fuji bikes established the first Japanese stage race which is now known as the Tour de Japan. Their engineers used these early races to increase the technology needed to improve the bikes and stay ahead of the competition! Today Fuji is known worldwide in the racing circle. The technology just keeps getting better each year.
